Susan E. Brackett

Dr. Brackett is Sooner born and Sooner bred, growing up in Tulsa and Bartlesville and attending both OSU and OU prior to dental school. Dr. Brackett graduated in 1978 from the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry. Upon graduation, she joined the faculty at the University of Colorado School of  Dental Medicine where she taught in the pre-doctoral curriculum for two years.

In the summer of 1980, she returned to the OU College of Dentistry as faculty in the Department of Fixed Prosthodontics where she taught for several years. In 1987, Dr. Brackett received her certificate in Fixed Prosthodontics and Master of Science degree from the University of Iowa. After her advanced training, she again returned to the OU College of Dentistry as a full-time faculty member.

In 1988, Dr. Brackett presented her original Master’s research to the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, and won the prestigious Stanley D. Tylman Award for novel research.

She is the co-author of the American Medical Writer’s Association award-winning textbook, Fundamentals of Tooth Preparation, as well as  Fundamentals of Fixed Prosthodontics, 3rd edition. In 1993, Dr. Brackett successfully completed her certification by the American Board of Prosthodontics, earning the prestigious status of Diplomate. Following a long and successful career in academics, Dr. Brackett joined Implant & Prosthodontic Associates in 1998.

In May 2013, Dr. Brackett received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of Oklahoma. Later that year, the ACP Education Foundation recognized her dedication and service to the specialty bestowing upon her the Founders Society Award, making her the third-ever recipient of this honor.

Dr. Brackett is an active member in the American Dental Association, the Oklahoma Dental Association, and the Oklahoma County Dental Society, as well as the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP).  She has been an active volunteer in the ACP, serving as Section President and as a member of numerous committees and task forces. Dr. Brackett was a member of the ACP Education Foundation Board of Directors for nine years and was the co-chair for the ACPEF’s Annual Appeal committee for several years. She has served numerous consecutive terms on the ACP Board of Directors: from 2005-2018 as Director of Public Relations and Communications Division, and as the Secretary, Vice President, President-Elect, President (2016-2017), and Immediate Past President. Currently, Dr. Brackett continues to serve the ACP as a volunteer on advisory task forces and committees.  

Recently, Dr. Brackett has reduced her clinical treatment of patients due to personal reasons.  She and her husband, Gregg, actively support a number of non-profit organizations in Oklahoma, including the University of Oklahoma Fine Arts Department and Athletic Department, Northeastern State University, the Oklahoma City Ballet, and the First Americans Museum, opening in the fall of 2021. 

Although still very involved with the practice, Dr. Brackett is not seeing any new patients.
